List Price: $11250 Sale Price: $6999 Options: """In spectacular condition"""... The Saturn division of General Motors has always danced to the beat of a different drummer, so when it fleshed out its product lineup last year with an SUV, it was to no one's surprise that it was a little different, too. Like its sedan siblings, the Vue's vertical body panels are dent-resistant polymer, with metal comprising the roof, hood and structure. In the power range, the Vue offers both a four-cylinder - GM's 143 hp DOHC 2.2 litre Ecotec, as in my tester, or an optional 181 hp DOHC 3.0 litre V6. The V6 choice comes only with a five-speed automatic, whether front, or all-wheel drive... The Vue uses electric power assist for the steering rather than the more typical hydraulic assist. The Vue's AWD is a "reactive" system. A difference in speed between the front and rear axles (read: front wheels slipping) results in a pump supplying pressurized fluid to a clutch pack that directs power rearwards. Combined with 20 cm of ground clearance, it worked well enough in deep snow. Inside, the Vue is pleasant. Large, clear instruments, including a tach - which you'll watch constantly, sit directly in front of the driver. Vue's manually adjusted front seats were very comfortable, with the passenger's backrest folding flat, allowing our Vue to swallow a large Ikea bookcase with the tailgate closed. The low centre console incorporates a proper handbrake (thank you, Saturn) and some cupholders. Comfort in the second row proved quite decent. There mercifully is no third row, but there is a neat organizer that folds out of the floor to keep you from scattering your groceries, along with several sturdy tie-downs and handy washer-fluid jug-sized bins. With power window-group-equipment, the Vue makes a great choice, offering those dent-resistant plastic body panels and a simple, real-world interior to those who actually do tote mountain bikes and scuba gear around - or for that matter, kids and their assorted paraphernalia. About two grand cheaper than Honda's Element, the Saturn Vue's MSRP for the V6 automatic, AWD, starts at $29,695...
